Federal Reserve makes emergency rate cut

U.S. interest rate is slashed by three-quarters of percentage point

WASHINGTON - The Federal Reserve, responding to a growing financial market crisis, slashed interest rates by three-quarters of a percentage point Tuesday.

U.S. stock futures seesawed Tuesday after the Fed’s emergency move. Dow Jones industrial futures, down more than 500 points, or more than 5 percent, before the Fed move, were fluctuating violently an hour before the start of trading, but improved to a level where they were down 206, or 1.70 percent, to 11,900.

Government wants access to all your email,searches and transfers

Here is a nice little story about how USA national intelligence director is helping to draft a bill that would allow the government to access any email, web search or file transfer you make.

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell is drawing up plans for cyberspace spying that would make the current debate on warrantless wiretaps look like a “walk in the park,” according to an interview published in the New Yorker’s print edition today.

Man Rapes Stepson for Raping Daughter

A 32-year-old Fort Worth, Texas, man called police and had his 18-year-old stepson arrested for aggravated sexual assault against the man’s 8-year-old daughter. The 8-year-old had been anally raped.

Against the man’s warning, the man’s wife posted bail for the stepson. However, when the stepson called for a ride home, the man took the call. But, after the man picked up the stepson, he didn’t drive straight home.

Instead, he took him to an abandoned house, severely beat the teen with a baseball bat, and anally raped him with a wrench. The man turned himself in for aggravated sexual assault. The man does have a criminal history which includes other assault charges.

Disney Marathon 2008

The crowds gathered early at Walt Disney World Sunday morning as thousands of runners took part in the 15th Annual Disney Marathon.

The marathon started at 6 a.m. Sunday. Runners began winding their way through the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

The more than 18,000 runners in the marathon is more than twice the amount of runners when the Disney Marathon started in 1994.

Serious runners have ranked the marathon as one of the top 15 in the world.

The race has welcomed runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes from all U.S. states and more than 35 countries, from as far away as Singapore.

Too Much Sugar Free Gum causes Severe Weight Loss

Two cases in Germany cite diarrhea due to the sweetener sorbitol.

German physicians report that chewing too much sugar free gum containing the artificial sweetener sorbitol can cause diarrhea leading to potentially dangerous weight loss.

The cases of a 21yrs old woman who suffered diarrhea caused her to lose about 24 pounds and a 46-year-man who lost approx. 46 pounds were mysteries until the doctors asked about their chewing habits.

Both were found to be consuming a lot of sorbitol, primarily from chewing gum, said Dr. Herbert Lochs, professor of internal medicine at Humboldt University in Berlin, and one author of the report.
