Dumbledore is gay JK rowling tells

Millions of fans around the world were yesterday digesting the news that one of the main characters in the Harry Potter novels, Albus Dumbledore, is gay.The revelation came from author JK Rowling during a question-and-answer session at New York’s Carnegie Hall. It instantly hurtled around the internet and the world. News websites in China and Germany announced starkly: ‘JK Rowling: “Dumbledore is gay”.’ One blogger wrote on a fansite: ‘My head is spinning. Wow. One more reason to love gay men.’”

Now this made me wondering a bit about the education this gives towards the audience.Given the average ageclass for Harry Potter movies are still kids, what will the new message for them be.Not sure and dont really give a damn about his orientation in his real life, but he’s playing a gay role in Harry Potter.Now if someone starts collecting some data, then he can easily find out that Ian McKellen whos playing Gandalf the role of Middle-earths wizard in the Lord of the Rings movie is gay in his personal life.Thinking it further, lets say our Bob, being 10yr old is amazed by the power of wizards, gets this connection then draws a conclusion that being gay gives you magical powers.God save us.

Gay rights campaigner Peter Tatchell welcomed the news about Dumbledore and said: “It’s good that children’s literature includes the reality of gay people, since we exist in every society.

“But I am disappointed that she did not make Dumbledore’s sexuality explicit in the Harry Potter book. Making it obvious would have sent a much more powerful message of understanding and acceptance.”

And a spokesman for gay rights group Stonewall added: “It’s great that JK has said this. It shows that there’s no limit to what gay and lesbian people can do, even being a wizard headmaster.”
