Iraqi Mosul Dam at risk of collapse

The largest dam in Iraq is at risk of an imminent collapse that could unleash a 20m (65ft) wave of water on Mosul, a city of 1.7m people, the US has warned.

In May, the US told Iraqi authorities to make Mosul Dam a national priority, as a catastrophic failure would result in a “significant loss of life”.

However, a $27m (£13m) US-funded reconstruction project to help shore up the dam has made little or no progress.

Iraq says it is reducing the risk and insists there is no cause for alarm.

Turkey can attack Northern Iraq Anytime

Turkish governament can start its offensive against the Kurd rebels anytime, told Turkeys prime-minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in London.Gordon Brown British prime-minister condemns the separatist PKK party but stressed that London isnt supporting any military action.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his negotiation with Gordon Brown british prime-minister on Downing Street, expressed the Turkish Parliaments approval of Northern Iraqis military actions for the governament.

The Turkish prime-minister hasnt mentioned the exact time of the attack, though he made it clear that it will happen in the near future.

Following talks with Brown, Erdogan declared at a press conference that Turkey would not wait forever for the Iraqi government to crack down on the PKK militia. Meanwhile, a members of Massoud Barzani’s clan, Masrur Barzani, declared on Arab news outlets that they consider Turkey’s problem with the PKK as an internal matter of the Turkish government, warning Turkey not to involve the Kurdish regional government of Iraq in its internal matters.
