Here is a nice little story about how USA national intelligence director is helping to draft a bill that would allow the government to access any email, web search or file transfer you make.

National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell is drawing up plans for cyberspace spying that would make the current debate on warrantless wiretaps look like a “walk in the park,” according to an interview published in the New Yorker’s print edition today.

The crowds gathered early at Walt Disney World Sunday morning as thousands of runners took part in the 15th Annual Disney Marathon.

The marathon started at 6 a.m. Sunday. Runners began winding their way through the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios.

The more than 18,000 runners in the marathon is more than twice the amount of runners when the Disney Marathon started in 1994.

Serious runners have ranked the marathon as one of the top 15 in the world.

The race has welcomed runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes from all U.S. states and more than 35 countries, from as far away as Singapore.

Iraqi Mosul Dam at risk of collapse

Published by Mr. LOL on October 30, 2007 Email This Post Email This Post

The largest dam in Iraq is at risk of an imminent collapse that could unleash a 20m (65ft) wave of water on Mosul, a city of 1.7m people, the US has warned.

In May, the US told Iraqi authorities to make Mosul Dam a national priority, as a catastrophic failure would result in a “significant loss of life”.

However, a $27m (£13m) US-funded reconstruction project to help shore up the dam has made little or no progress.

Iraq says it is reducing the risk and insists there is no cause for alarm.

As reported before the Dalai Lama went to Washington

Chinese police and soldiers have clashed with Buddhist monks in several towns in Tibet during a crackdown on celebrations to mark the award of a US congressional gold medal to the Dalai Lama last week.

According to Tibetan activist groups and Hong Kong media, the security forces have attempted to suppress monasteries that tried to mark the prize-giving with special prayers or decorations.

Despite government efforts to remove satellite dishes, halt sales of celebratory fireworks and block websites such as YouTube, news has spread quickly about the accolade and the meeting last week between the Tibetan spiritual leader and US president George Bush.

The Guardian reports.

PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - Philadelphia is home to the least attractive people in the United States, a survey of visitors and residents showed on Friday.

About 60,000 people responded to the online survey — at www.travelandleisure.com — which ranked 25 cities in categories including shopping, food, culture, and cityscape, said Amy Farley, senior editor at the magazine.
For unattractiveness, Philadelphia just beat out Washington DC and Dallas/Fort Worth for the bottom spot. Miami and San Diego are home to the most attractive people, the poll found.
